Any Canadian who has ever traveled south of the border and requested a Caesar at brunch quickly learns that our beloved tomato based boozy drink is only available in Canada. In the US you have to settle for a Bloody Mary, the less tasty cousin. The Caesar was first invented in Calgary, Alberta in 1969 by restaurateur Walter Chell to celebrate the opening of a new Italian restaurant in the city. It quickly became a popular mixed drink within Canada yet the drink remains virtually unknown elsewhere. So why not celebrate a uniquely Canadian cocktail with a national holiday?
This year marks the second annual National Caesar Day; in 2015, Canadians consumed more than 360 million Caesars and #National-CaesarDay trended across the country. Thousands of Canadians are poised to celebrate Canada’s famous cocktail during National Caesar Day today, May 19. All 10 provinces will simultaneously raise their Caesars for the largest coast-to-coast toast at 8 p.m., ET. Are you ready for it? If you cannot make it to a bar, here is how to make one at home. And this one includes bacon, because who doesn’t love bacon?
Ingredients
1 oz. Bacon Infused Iceberg Vodka
2 dashes Bacon Flavoured Hot Sauce
3 dash Worcestershire
5 grinds Fresh Cracked Salt and Pepper
4 oz. Mott’s Clamato
Garnish
Bacon!
Rim
Ground Bacon Bits dusted with Fresh Cracked Black Pepper
Preparation
1. Rim a highball glass with citrus and rimmer.
2. Add ice to the brim of the glass.
3. Add the ingredients in order.
4. Stir well to mix up the cocktail and garnish.
