For over a decade, Arcade Fire have proved themselves to be one of Canada’s most successful and groundbreaking acts. Fronted by songwriting duo Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, the indie outfit have crafted four eclectic, anthemic, and critically acclaimed albums. In 2013, Arcade Fire released the Haitian rara-influenced project, Reflektor. Augmented with disco rhythms and forward-thinking composition, the release garnered the band multiple Grammy nominations, and landed on a plethora of year-end lists. After a subsequent tour and a sprinkling of live performances, the group went noticeably quiet. A painful four years later, Arcade Fire are finally teasing brand new music.
Earlier today, a single track surfaced on the Tidal streaming service. The band previously supported the company at its launch, and now it seems like their future releases may get the Tidal exclusive. Thankfully, the song has been made available to stream for non-subscribers, which is excellent news for all of our ears. Entitled, “I Give You Power”, the new song borrows heavily from the upbeat and dancy vibes found on Reflektor. While similar in tempo, it also pulls from industrial and post-punk palettes. Perhaps the most welcome surprise in the song, comes via gospel icon, Mavis Staples, who lends her commanding voice for a powerful feature. You can listen to the song below via Tidal.
