Calvin Klein Gets a Logo Update From Raf Simons and Peter Saville

Last summer, Belgian designer Raf Simons was tapped to become creative director of iconic fashion house, Calvin Klein. The former head of Christian Dior was tasked with pushing his employer in a bold new direction, something many feel it hasn’t achieved since the departure of its titular founder. While Simons has been in-office since August, Calvin Klein has yet to debut a line under his exclusive direction. After much anticipation, it’s recently been confirmed that the first Raf show will hit the runway next month – and it looks like everything will have a fresh new look when it does.

Raf Simons is poised to shake things up at Calvin Klein, and the first example of this comes before any of his pieces have been even debuted in person. Linking up with veteran graphic designer, Peter Saville, Simons has launched a redesign of the classic Calvin Klein logo. The new typography is presented in all caps, with subtle line changes and shadowing. At first glance, the move seems hardly much of a change, but it is a signifier of things to come.

The CK creative director joins the fray with considerable clout, but Saville is no slouch either. Many know the English-born graphics guru as the designer behind Factory records juggernauts, Joy Division and New Order. Saville was responsible for the record sleeve of 1979’s Unknown Pleasures, which has since been repurposed in music, media, and of course fashion. His resume is incredibly long, full of accolades, and includes previous work with Simons, so this collaboration shouldn’t come as any surprise. You can get an official look at the new Calvin Klein logo below, via Instagram. While on the same social media account, you can scroll back to see previews of the new line as well.
