Recently, it seems like Hollywood is more comfortable with churning out reboots and sequels, rather than crafting a true original story. Always on the cutting edge of things, Netflix is out to break the mold this year and will happily toss out the formula in favour of a strange new movie called Bright.
The film stars Will Smith as a beat cop who solves crimes in a bizarre alternate reality where humans coexist with magical creatures like orcs, fairies, and elves. Yep, you read that correctly. Bright blends the gritty realism of the American inner city with the wild world of mythic beings and sorcery, and its creators are not worried about throwing in some intense violence along the way.
The movie is being helmed by director, David Ayer, who previously joined Will Smith in the villainous DC adventure, Suicide Squad. Ayer is also familiar with crime dramas, having written and directed the critically acclaimed cop movie, End of Watch. His lengthy resume also comes bolstered with great titles like Training Day, Fury, and the Fast and the Furious. Hopefully, this means we can expect Bright to be equally entertaining in comparison to Ayer’s catalogue.
Along with Smith on deck, Bright will also star talents like Joel Edgerton, Ike Barinholtz, and Girl With the Dragon Tattoo‘s Noomi Rapace. Before you get too excited, know that you’ll have to wait a few months until you catch the movie on the small screen. Bright will officially land on Netflix this December 22. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
