Puma’s high-profile collaboration with The Weeknd is proving to be a fruitful one. The German athletic brand initially signed the Toronto singer last September and has since utilized The Weeknd’s image in a number of campaigns. Most recently, we brought you coverage of Puma’s slick new Tsugi Netfit, which was of course accompanied with an appearance by the Starboy himself.
Along with Abel, you may already be aware that Puma has kickstarted their mass appeal with a number of partnerships including American rapper, Big Sean, U.K. duo, Krept & Konan, and their marquee deal with Rihanna’s Fenty line. The latter has produced a number of extremely popular signature shoes, but that honour has yet to be shared with the aforementioned XO captain.
Thankfully, Puma is looking to right their wrong next month with the release of the highly anticipated sneaker dubbed, the Parallel. It’s the brand’s first design venture with The Weeknd, and one the company hopes will continue to elevate their already rising stock. As for the shoe in question, the Parallel boasts a boot-like silhouette and borrows heavily from high fashion streetwear. With its heel zipper and military aesthetic, the Parallel wouldn’t look out of place in a Rick Owens lookbook.
The Parallels were originally teased online by social media influencer, BenjaminKickz, who posted images onto his Instagram late in March. If you’ve been lucky enough to see The Weeknd during this year’s Starboy tour, you also would’ve seen the Parallels in action. Abel has been rocking the pieces consistently in the lead up to their release. You can expect the Parallels to drop on August 24, but sadly, there are no concrete details regarding store locations or availability.
