Fans of both horror and superhero movies are in for an incredibly unexpected treat in 2018. Thanks to the creative minds of Marvel and director, Josh Boone, audiences will be in for a scare in the form of a brand new cinematic adventure called, The New Mutants. The fresh flick is based on the groundbreaking comic book series of the same name, which tells the tale of five young mutants trapped inside an incredibly sinister asylum.
New Mutants was originally published in 1982 and its story arcs were incorporated into the beloved X-Men anthology. Several of the story’s main heroes eventually make their way into Xavier Academy to hone their superhuman skills. Early looks at the forthcoming film adaptation suggest that The New Mutants will also be tied to the evergrowing Marvel Cinematic Universe, meaning we could see characters pop up in future adaptions and sequels.
The New Mutants will arguably be Josh Boone’s biggest and most ambitious project to date. The American director is relatively new to Hollywood, having only helmed two feature projects in his entire career— both of which were also romantic dramas. Boone is perhaps most known for his second entry into film, 2014’s The Fault in Our Stars, which was a critical and box office success for the young auteur. How Boone’s polished style transitions into the dark and gritty world of superhero horror remains to be scene.
