Woman Crush Wednesday: Amber Heard

Above: Amber Heard

Name: Amber Heard

Birthdate: April 22, 1986

Birthplace: Austin, Texas

Claim to fame: She made her film debut in the acclaimed sports drama Friday Night Lights and her first starring role came in the film All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, which she received praise for her performance. But her breakthrough began in 2008 with films like Never Back Down, Pineapple Express, The Stepfather, Zombieland and the Joneses.

What we can see her in next: She has a minor role in Magic Mike 2, which hits theatres everywhere on July 1.

Interesting fact: She came out as bisexual at the 25th anniversary GLAAD event. And now she’s married to the one and only Johnny Depp.

Best quotes: “It requires bravery to do something no one else around you is doing.”

“It’s my job in Hollywood to find roles where I get to be a character not a bathing suit.”

Why we love her: Our WCW this week famously became Mrs. Johnny Depp this past February. While she’s only 29 and Depp is, well, way older, they seem to defy convention. Depp is the wanderlust type actor who’s always been of the eccentric variety, and Heard, the bisexual free spirit. They met while filming The Rum Diary, Heard playing Depp’s love interest in the film. While this gorgeous blonde has been mulling about in the industry for the past decade, it’s only in recent years audiences have come to know and love her.

Amber Heard started her career as a model, which she transitioned to film and television roles (don’t they all). One of her earliest roles was in country star Kenny Chesney’s music video for the song “There Goes My Life”. Then came numerous television roles — one of her first starring roles was on the CW show Hidden Palms. Her first film role was the acclaimed sports drama Friday Night Lights, which resulted in a string of other roles in films such as Alpha Dog, North Country, and her first starring role in All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, which she received praise from the critics for her performance. She finally started to break out with other recognizable performances in films such as Pineapple Express, Never Back Down, The Stepfather, Zombieland and The Joneses. Then 2012 it was The Rum Diary, which paired her up with her hubby-to-be Depp, which she describes as “the best experience of my life”. What, does she mean Johnny Depp or her role? I’m assuming both.

Now Heard has a bunch of other high profile projects she’s worked on, or is currently working on, she just finished production on The Danish Girl, which is Eddie Redmayne’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning performance in The Theory of Everything.

So it seems that both on merit of her talent, as well as shacking up with one of Hollywood’s most celebrated, versatile and transformative actors in Depp (who seems to be making a career revival with his latest role as Whitey Bulgar in Black Mass), that Heard is taking her stature to the next level in Hollywood. And for both reasons, we are all excited for her.

You can catch Heard in the Magic Mike sequel, which hits theatres everywhere on July 1.
