The Syfy network has confirmed that Sharknado 2 will premiere in 2014.
“Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun,” Thomas Vitale, programming veep, said in a statement. “We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year.”
Syfy has confirmed that sequel will be set in New York City, but the network still needs help choosing a subtitle for the film. Syfy has launched a Twitter contest asking fans to tweet their suggestions to @SyfyMovies using the hashtag #Sharknado.
Sharkado, starring Tara Reid and Ian Ziering, became an instant camp classic after it’s July 11th debut. The over-the-top TV movie, about a tornado that hits L.A. and causes sharks to fall from the sky, quickly became a trending topic on Twitter, generating nearly 5,000 tweets per minute at its peak.
