Beards are no longer ascribed to the social elite or designated for the notorious social rebel. These days’ men are taking liberties with their personal aesthetics and that includes skipping the razor and embracing a little scruff. If you have chosen to go rogue, you are not off the maintenance hook with caring for your whiskers. Luckily, there are a variety of beard oils and balms available to keep your facial hair flake-free, smooth and hydrated.
What to look for:
Dry hair, even on your face, experiences breakage during winter months and using a beard oil will help keep your beard conditioned and hydrated. Be on the lookout for products that contain Grape seed oil, Safflower oil, Tea Tree oil or Argan oil as one of its key ingredients. The anti-inflammatory properties of these four essential oils will help sooth sensitive skin and act as an astringent for those with acne prone skin. Rosemary, Hempseed oil, Coconut oil and Castor oil are light hydrating oils that easily absorb into the skin.
Used regularly, a good beard oil or balm will reduce itchiness, dryness and other common beard issues. Here are a few of our favourites:

Woodsman Beard Oil
This woodsy scented beard oil is infused with Jojoba, Almond, Caster and Olive oils for extra hydration. Woodsman also contains Safflower oil, which acts as an excellent anti-inflammatory. This dense beard oil is highly recommended for men with thick beards.
Beards are a breeding ground for germs, particularly during cold and flu season. Badricks Da Balm is known to hydrate and disinfect the skin. The main ingredient is Tea Tree oil, a soothing anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral essential oil. Other ingredients include Shea butter (high in vitamin A, D & E) which nourishes the skin and Jojoba seed oil (non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic) which helps treat and repair flakey skin.
John Burroughs Beard Oil
With aromatic notes of cedar and sandalwood, this light beard oil consists of Argan oil and Grape seed oil. It’s great if you have a shorter beard and can be applied to the whole face. It’s recommended for guys with very dry skin and coarse facial hair.

Reminder : Always remember to do a skin test before generously applying any new product to your face. Not all bearded men are alike and some products may cause a skin reaction.
