Dress Code In Full Effect: Arcade Fire Sings A New Melody

Arcade Fire sings a new melody

If you’re an Arcade Fire fan, you’ve probably already heard about the dress code that has been issued to all concertgoers who plan on attending their upcoming tour, Reflektor. Now, it’s not uncommon to see fans don attire that pays homage to their fave band’s eclectic style – I’m sure all KISS fans would agree there is nothing more exhilarating than painting your face black and white while singing along to ‘Rock & Roll All Night’. Well, Arcade Fire has decided to go one step further and illicit a MANDATORY dress code that entails wearing your Sunday best or a costume to their next show.

While some fans instantly embraced the announcement on Ticketmaster, it’s also garnered backlash and criticism from music pundits claiming that the Montreal-based band is alienating their fans by departing from their casual indie roots. Arcade Fire’s response? A statement posted by the band on their Facebook page says people should “relax” about the dress code.

To everyone really upset about us asking people to dress up at our shows… please relax. It’s not super mandatory. It just makes for a more fun carnival when we are all in it together. So far these have been the best shows we have ever played.
See you soon.
Love,
Arcade Fire

Bottom line? Don’t expect venues to turn you away if you choose to rebel against the Reflektor code… but you may end up feeling like the odd man out amongst a room full of suit clad gents and women in fancy dresses embellished with rhinestones. Perhaps Arcade Fire is on to something… After all, what’s wrong with playing dress up to go check out one of your favourite bands.

Arcade Fire’s tour begins March 6 in Louisville and stops in Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg before wrapping in Montreal on August 30th.
