A German short film that captures the struggles of aging is getting some serious love from the Internet and going viral.
“Break Free” tells the story of 79-year-old Karl, a former marathon runner who is locked up in a lifeless nursing home. After discovering his old adidas running shoes he becomes determined to escape the home and go for a run, against the will of the nurses.
The video, which looks like an adidas commercial, wasn’t actually made by sneaker brand, and there currently aren’t any plans for them to use it. Eugen Merher, the 26-year-old Filmacademy Baden-Wuerttemberg student behind “Break Free” revealed to Huffington Post that he did try sending the video to adidas and their communications team, but he never received a response.
