Earlier today, the folks over at Ubisoft Montreal unleashed an extended look at their exciting new title, Far Cry 5. The video game is still a good few months away from a retail release, but developers are setting the record straight this week and blessing everyone with some juicy new details. The highly anticipated action adventure has been in the works for a minute now, and rumours of its fresh setting, features, and multiplayer aspects have been shared on forums since the beginning of the year. It may be too early to call, but judging from the few tidbits we’ve received and an explosive new trailer, Far Cry 5 may be one of next year’s hottest titles.
Thanks to some press releases, we now know that Far Cry 5 will rocket players into the American midwest. The story takes place in a sleepy little area called Hope County, which is full of lush forests, vast lakes, and noble wildlife. Unfortunately for its residents, there is a violent religious cult called Eden’s Gate who wreak havoc on anything and anyone who comes in their way. Leading the group is a nasty dude named Father Joseph Seed who runs the shadowy team with the help of his malevolent children. It looks like it’ll be a hassle to take them down, with Eden’s Gate armed to the teeth, brandishing automatic weapons and fully-equipped vehicles.
Users will take control of a deputy sheriff who is tasked with taking down the corrupt organization which resemble a confederate militia more than a peaceful christian sect. Speaking of the single player campaign, new to the franchise is character creation. This means that for the first time, you’ll be able to customize the look of your deputy, which will allow for a more personalized experience. There isn’t a ton of info regarding the extent of changeability, but fingers are crossed for some extensive options.
Another cool function of Far Cry 5 is the ability to take on the quest with a buddy. That’s right, this time you’ll be able to play the main campaign with a friend. We’re glad to see co-op included in the fun, as sometimes the missions call for a little more help. Aside from the main story, everyone will be able to join online multiplayer which will surely bring the chaos to epic new heights. One more cool thing will be the map editing feature, something budding game designers are drooling over. The ability to craft your own arena definitely adds to the replayability which is crucial when we’re shelling out big bucks.
Far Cry 5 lands in stores on February 27, 2018. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. You can check out the fiery new trailer below via Ubisoft’s official YouTube channel.
