Gallery Books, a Simon and Schuster imprint, announced a book deal with Cody R. Wilson earlier this week. Wilson is a polemical figure famous for posting free designs for 3D printable guns online.
The 25 year-old former Texas law student’s forthcoming book is titled Negative Liberty: A Gun Printer’s Guide to the Apocalypse.
Continued controversy on the possibilities of 3D printing in general— and the legality of printing fully functional pistols, rifles, and semi-automatic weapons in specific— has fuelled the fame of the young, self proclaimed ‘radical.’ His free online designs, removed by the U.S. State Department, are a cap on United States already rickety gun restrictions, which he hopes his book will illustrate.
Negative Liberty is due for publication in 2015. Forbes quotes Wilson: “The whole point to me is to add to the hacker mythology and to have a very, very accurate and contentious portrayal of what we think about the current political situation, our attitude and political orientation… a touchstone for the young, disaffected radical.”
