Jon Favreau Tapped to Write and Direct ‘Star Wars’ TV Series

After years of delays and various complications, it finally looks like Star Wars is headed to the small screen. Earlier today, the blockbuster franchise confirmed the news via their official Twitter account and revealed a few details about the exciting unnamed project. As of now, the series is set to appear on Disney’s forthcoming streaming service and will be written and directed by Iron Man mastermind, Jon Favreau. According to Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, the franchise is in very capable hands with the Hollywood veteran.

In a public statement released to media outlets earlier today, Kennedy shared her enthusiasm about the partnership. “I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” she began. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

Not much is currently known about the series, but if whispers prove true, it’ll likely be a chronological and live-action adventure. Favreau has a healthy relationship with Star Wars parent company, Disney, and is currently working on the studio’s Lion King reboot which is due out later next year. “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you,” the director stated today. “I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
