One of the central characters in Fox’s animated TV series The Simpsons is to be killed off during the show’s 25th season, which began airing on Sunday night. The show’s producer Al Jean recently revealed during a press conference to promote the 25th season of the primetime cartoon that it will be the end for a regular character.
“I’ll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is,’ Jean said.
Of course, that’s not much of a clue considering that almost all of the actors who supplied voices for the main Simpsons characters have taken home Emmys. The Simpsons has won 27 Primetime Emmys since it began its run in 1989 – a haul which includes individual Outstanding Voice-Over Performance awards for actors: Dan Castellaneta, who voices Homer (1992, 1993, 2004, 2009), Julie Kavner, who voices Marge (1992), Nancy Cartwright, who voices Bart (1992), Yeardley Smith, who voices Lisa (1992), Hank Azaria who voices Moe Szyslak, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Chief Wiggum, Comic Book Guy, Carl Carlson and numerous others (1998, 2001, 2003), Marcia Wallace, who voices Edna Krabappel (1992), Jackie Mason, who voices Rabbi Hyman Krustofski (1992) and Kelsey Grammar, who voices Sideshow Bob (2006).
The episode will air sometime in mid- to late-2014.
A character on the show hasn’t since Maud Flanders was killed 14 years ago.
