Prepare yourself: Netflix is about to unleash an avalanche of comedy specials throughout the remainder of the year. With a ton of amazing standups choosing to premiere content on the popular streaming service, it’s safe to say that Netflix is the undisputed spot for laughs. Not only is the app home to stars like Dave Chappelle, Marc Maron, and Hasan Minhaj, but so too will it be for comedy juggernaut, Jerry Seinfeld.
Last month, we got our first look at Seinfeld’s forthcoming hour, which will debut exclusively on Netflix. The comedy legend won’t stop there either, as the famous observationalist will release more new specials in 2018. Even more exciting, is that Jerry will move his successful Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee show over to Netflix as well.
To help celebrate their new comedy goldmine, Netflix executives launched a hilarious parody video onto the internet. The funny short initially uploaded during the Emmy Awards, and features some notable standups walking into scenes from Netflix originals like House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and Stranger Things. Aside from the aforementioned Mr. Seinfeld, the vignette has guest spots from Chappelle, Chris Rock, and even Ellen DeGeneres.
The Emmy ad cleverly coincides with Netflix’s official comedy ad campaign. Earlier this month mysterious billboards popped up around Los Angeles claiming, “Netflix Is A Joke”. Soon after, it was confirmed by a company rep that the jab was in fact an inside job. Unsurprisingly, this latest video utilizes the same viral branding.
