The Rundown: James Corden Carpool Karaoke Hopefuls

If you’re not a massive fan of James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” segment from The Late Late Show, I’m not sure we can be friends.

Seriously.

Because here’s the thing: not only is the host tremendously talented and charming, but he’s got major music celebs cutting loose and rocking out while riding shotgun and if you don’t like that, you don’t like life.

He made Justin Bieber endearing. He showed another level of Adele’s awesomeness. He sang the damn hits with Stevie Wonder AND Sir Elton John.

So in the wake of his special on Tuesday night that featured clips from all his previous viral segments, plus an amazing session with Jennifer Lopez that included a text conversation with Leonardo DiCaprio where he called her “Boo-Boo,” here’s a collection of artists that need to share the car with the late night host in the near future.

Taylor Swift

Tell me this wouldn’t be bonkers. G’head and try. Not only does she have a collection of hits that they could belt out, but you know there would be some old school jams that they could absolutely rock out to. Carpool Shake It Off is something we all need in our lives.

Snoop Dogg

This would break the Internet. For real. Corden rolling around with The D-O-Double G, bouncing through the classics and vamping on some soul jams would be a sure-fire hit. It would also be hilarious because you know Snoop would either be trying to blaze the whole time or fairly smoked out when it happened.

Tim McGraw

So far, it’s largely been popstars sharing a car ride with Corden, but McGraw has the oeuvre and the pop culture cache to jump in the whip and power through a couple numbers. Plus, you know Tim McGraw is the kind of guy that would have fun with it too.

Rihanna

No one needs me to explain this one, right? Like having one of the most prolific hitmakers of the last five years cruising around styling on some of her favourite tracks would be amazing.

Adam Levine

One of the things you really need in this setting is an artist that doesn’t take himself too seriously and if you’ve seen Levine on The Voice, you know he’s game for a laugh. Plus, he and Corden have the Begin Again connection. By the way, if you haven’t seen Begin Again, that’s another “can’t be friends” condition.

Phil Collins

If you read Collins’ interview/interaction with Action Bronson from not that long ago, you know he’s someone that’s up for a laugh, which we’ve already established as a prime condition. Add in the amazing collection of super-fun track they could run through and you’ve got a recipe for success.

Robbie Williams

So maybe this is a complete personal choice because I’m a Robbie Williams mark, but there is no way that Williams and Corden going through his catalogue – including some Take That tracks – wouldn’t be special. I would watch it 9,000 times within the first week of its release.

Ryan Tedder

Not only is he the lead single of OneRepublic, but Tedder is also one of the more profilic and successful songwriters around, having penned hits for Beyonce, Adel, Jennifer Lopez and on and on and on and on. The harmonies would be amazing and yes, that sounds extremely music nerdy of me.

Bruno Mars

One of the most amazing performers going right now and he’s got a monster pack of hits, Mars got his start doing impersonations and covers, so there is no chance that he doesn’t just kick back and have fun with this. “Just The Way You Are” with Corden in the car? Gold.

OutKast

This is my sleeper, last on the list, knock your socks off because it would be the most amazing thing in the history of amazing things to have Big Boi and Three Stacks in all their awesomeness spinning around dropping lyrics and hanging out. James Corden would completely jam out on “Ms. Jackson,” guaranteed.
