We’re still months away from the epic return of Stranger Things, but we now have something to help tide us over. The show’s talented cast and creators visited San Diego Comic-Con this week to dish out some juicy new details and tease this year’s epic premiere. Thanks to some brand new footage, we now know that Netflix’s runaway hit will be returning to our screens later this October, and it looks like we’ll come face-to-face with a set of new characters and menacing villains.
The extended Comic-Con panel was hosted by comedian Patton Oswalt, and featured the main cast as well as Stranger Things masterminds, the Duffer Brothers. Along with the original gang, the Q&A also brought out new faces like Dacre Montgomery, Sadie Sink, and a mysterious doctor played by Paul Reiser. Oh, and everyone in the audience was treated to a surprise appearance from one of the first season’s unsung heroes, Barb Holland.
Naturally, everyone remained pretty tight-lipped regarding the new episodes, but the Q&A did provide some great insight into the show’s early stages of development. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the writer-directors explained that Stranger Things was created to emulate a “Spielberg movie based on Stephen King lore with music by John Carpenter”. It’s an incredibly fitting description for the horror story rooted in 80s pop culture.
