The ever-popular CHIN International Picnic is back for another year of festivities in Toronto. The annual picnic will once again coincide with The Taste of Little Italy Festival and take over Toronto’s Little Italy neighborhood.
It’s a big year for the city’s largest multicultural celebration as they celebrate their 50th anniversary and pay tribute to CHIN’s late founder and unofficial mayor of Little Italy, Johnny Lombardi.
Starting Friday June 17, Little Italy will celebrate multiculturalism in Toronto by lining College Street with a diverse selection of vendors, great shopping, live music, pasta sampling stations — and some of the best gelato around. The opening day will include a celebratory ceremony highlighting the 50th anniversary, featuring notable dignitaries and other celebrity guests.
Something missing this year? The annual bikini contest. Organizers have cancelled the bikini contest at this year’s CHIN annual picnic.
“As our 50th anniversary, we really wanted to focus on the things that CHIN radio does,” said CHIN president Lenny Lombardi. “We celebrate our culture and diversity. We celebrate our heritage. And we wanted to refocus on the international talent and musical entertainers that we support throughout the year.”
This year’s picnic, hyped as the “largest free multicultural picnic in the world” take over Toronto’s Little Italy neighborhood from Friday June 17 until Sunday June 19.
