The annual World Happiness Report, from the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network rates Canada as the sixth happiest nation – down a notch from last year. According to the United Nations-sponsored survey, Canada has some of the happiest people on the planet because of long life expectancy, high average income and robust social ties.
The five countries that are deemed happier than Canada are Denmark, Normay, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Sweden. The United States is ranked the 17th happiest nation, while the United Kingdom was ranked 22nd. The least happy country on the planet is Togo at 156.
Happy people live longer, are more productive, earn more money and are better citizens, the report states. The details are contained in the UN Sustainable Development Research Initiative’s Happiness Report, released Monday.
Data for the latest happiness survey was collected between 2010 and 2012.
