September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day and the Movember Foundation is doing their part in raising awareness.
Men commonly don’t talk about their feelings and it’s a serious problem… New groundbreaking research from the men’s health charity shows that. Globally the numbers are staggering. 3 out of 4 deaths by suicide are men and a 510,000 men around the world die from suicide each year. That’s approximately one man every minute.
In Canada, on average, 7 men take their life each day.
This year, the Movember Foundation is beginning to tackle male suicide and hopes to ignite conversations around the sensitive topic with a powerful new campaign. A poignant video is the center of the initiative and it’s fronted by men who have suffered and survived through suicidal thoughts.
The video’s powerful but simple message… “Men, let’s talk when things get tough.”
You can help break the stigma surrounding male suicide by encouraging men to reach out, particularly during times of change and when things get tough. The numbers don’t lie, someone in your family, within your group of friends or workplace is likely to be dealing with a mental health problem right now.
