Elon Musk, the enigmatic billionaire behind Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly known as Twitter), isn’t just stirring controversy and building a future of AI and Mars colonization—he’s also raising the next generation of Musks. With at least 13 children from four different women, Musk has made headlines not just for his business ventures but also for his rapidly growing family.

Musk has often spoken about the declining birth rate being a crisis and has never shied away from discussing his belief in having many children to counteract population decline. He has even joked on X that he’s “doing his best to help the underpopulation crisis.”

Over the years Musk has welcomed six kids with his first wife, Justine Wilson, three with his ex-girlfriend Grimes, three with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis and another one with Conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair.

Here’s a look inside Musk’s ever-expanding family tree.

JUSTINE MUSK: THE FIRST FAMILY

Before Musk became a household name, he was married to Justine Musk (née Wilson), a Canadian author. The couple met while attending Queen’s University in Canada and married in January 2000.

Children with Justine Musk:

  • Nevada Alexander Musk (born May 2002): Tragically, their first child, Nevada, died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at just 10 weeks old.
  • Griffin Musk (born April 2004): One of Musk’s first twins, born through IVF.
  • Vivian Jenna Wilson (born April 2004): Griffin’s twin; originally named Xavier but transitioned in 2022, legally changing her name and distancing herself from Musk. Musk has said that his daughter is figuratively “dead.”
  • Kai Musk (born January 2006): One of the triplets born via IVF.
  • Saxon Musk (born January 2006): Another of the triplets.
  • Damian Musk (born January 2006): The third of the triplets.

The couple divorced in 2008 but have co-parented their children since.

GRIMES: THE HIGH-PROFILE ROMANCE

In 2018, Musk began dating Canadian musician Grimes (real name: Claire Boucher), a relationship that captivated social media with its mix of tech and avant-garde art.

Children with Grimes:

  • X Æ A-Xii Musk (born May 2020): Originally named X Æ A-12, his name had to be slightly altered for legal reasons. He’s often referred to as “X.”
  • Exa Dark Sideræl Musk (born December 2021): Nicknamed “Y,” she was born via surrogate.
  • Techno Mechanicus Musk (believed to have been born June 2022): Referred to as “Tau” by his parents, little is known about this child.

Musk and Grimes have had an on-again, off-again relationship but remain connected as co-parents.

SHIVON ZILIS: THE QUIET ADDITION

Perhaps the most surprising revelation came in 2022, when it was revealed that Musk had fathered twins with Shivon Zillion, an executive at his brain-chip company, Neuralink.

Children with Shivon Zilis:

  • Strider Musk (born 2021): One of the secret twins born just weeks before Musk and Grimes had their second child.
  • Azure Musk (born 2021): The second of the Neuralink twins.

Reports suggest that the twins were conceived via IVF, and Musk and Zilis maintain a professional and personal relationship.

THE MYSTERIOUS 13TH CHILD

In September 2023, rumours began to swirl that Musk had a 13th child, but details remained scarce. Speculation swirls about the mother, with some suspecting another child with Grimes or an undisclosed partner. On Friday, February 14, 2025 right-wing influencer Ashley St Clair announced on X that she and Musk shared a five-month-old child.

“Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father,” she wrote. “I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause.”

St Clair did not detail which media organization was seeking information about her and her child.

“I intend to allow our child to grow in a normal and safe environment. For that reason, I ask that the media honor our child’s privacy, and refrain from invasive reporting,” St Clair added.

Brian Glicklich, St Clair’s representative, shared a statement on Saturday, February 15, 2025 in a post on X that claimed his client and Musk “have been privately working towards the creation of an agreement about raising their child for some time.”

“It is disappointing that a tabloid reporter, who repeatedly ambushed Ashley and her family, made it impossible to complete that process confidentially,” Glicklich said.

His only apparent public recognition of St Clair’s announcement came in the form of a reply to far-right activist Milo Yiannopoulos, who claimed St Clair “plotted” to “ensnare” Musk.

The billionaire replied “whoa” on Saturday evening.

So, will Musk stop at 13? If history is any indication, probably not.
