It doesn’t stop at Stephen Curry: Under Armour is looking to make its mark on the NBA this decade by recruiting some big-name ambassadors. The latest athlete joining the fold is none other than Philadelphia 76ers centre, Joel Embiid.
If you happen to be a basketball fan, you may recall that Embiid had previously been locked to a deal with Adidas these past few years — that partnership produced some dope signature pieces, including a wild one from earlier this year that featured the player’s own visage. Now, the Cameroonian phenom is shaking things up and taking his talents to Under Armour for the foreseeable future.
According to multiple press outlets, Embiid’s fresh deal will span over five seasons and include not just sneakers, but a branded apparel collection as well. Specific numbers haven’t been revealed, but we do know that the massive payday will crown Joel as the league’s highest-paid centre.
Although the deal was made official earlier today, Embiid was busy these past few weeks negotiating, and eventually signing, an offer sheet with Under Armour at the end of September. Now with everything set in place, fans should expect to see new gear on the court in the very near future.
Along with NBA stars, Under Armour has made quite the cultural push lately. In April, we got a sneak peek at the company’s collab with A$AP Rocky. The joint effort produced some sick skateboard-inspired creps and are the first real pieces from a deal that stems back to summer 2017.
