Early last year, my favourite fragrance was discontinued. I’d been wearing it daily since 2008 and when it suddenly disappeared from department stores shelves, the thought of going without it had me panicked. Cut to me hitting fragrance counters at every airport I found myself in, buying up the few remaining bottles that were left kicking around. Then it vanished completely.
As I slowly spritzed my way through the last of my hoarded bottles, I began my mission to find a new signature scent. A daunting task, even for an editor who regularly receives pitches on the latest scents. Through the following months I sampled more fragrances then I’d care to admit to and learned the process is not as easy as one would think. But, I was determined to find a light all-season scent.
Recently I stumbled upon Dior HOMME Eau for Men, the latest fragrance from Christian Dior being fronted by Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson. The Parisian fashion house describes their new scent as one created for the man with 1,000 lives to live, a man whose mantra echoes James Dean’s iconic quote: “Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.” Well… I lead a pretty busy life and I’ve always like James Dean and his effortlessly cool vibe, so I sprayed away.
The charismatic scent opens with top notes of Moroccan Grapefruit, Calabrian Bergamot and Crimean Coriander atop a woodsy Virginia Cedar Wood and sexy Tuscan Iris. The blending of fragrance notes delivers a fresh woody fragrance leaves you with a soft powdery finish that still comes across as masculine. It’s unique and a fragrance I’ve (finally) deemed worthy of replacing my former signature scent.
