With a personal belief that ever man wants to be a little bit of a rock star, seasonal advertising campaigns that feature music icons like Iggy Pop and Kiss and a flagship store in a downtown New York City space that was once occupied by legendary punk club CBGB, it’s safe to say John Varvatos is a guys kind of man. And we agree.
Since his debut collection in 2000, the designer has been pumping out men’s suits paired with biker boots, handkerchiefs worn knotted, cool shades for day and night and distinctly masculine fragrances. The latest eau to join the Greek American’s roster is Artisan Blu, a fresh and rich aquatic scent.
The third in a fragrant trilogy that began with Artisan followed by Artisan Acqua, this incarnation combines the herbal lavender and citrusy bergamot and bitter orange notes of its predecessors along with the edible plant chayote and herb basil for a lush and green first spritz. Geranium, iris and orange blossom flowers with clary sage and palmarosa are then swirled into the mix before being poured over top of spicy patchouli and woodsy cedar wood, parasol pine, tamarisk and pistachio tree resin. The final effect is radiant and crisp with deeply masculine undertones—all captured in a flask-like blue bottle wrapped in an artisan texture and finished with an antiqued cap and engraved tag.
John Varvatos Artisan Blu is available for $89 for 75 ml and for $110 for 125 ml at Hudson’s Bay, Sephora and Shoppers Drug Mart stores across Canada.
