After 16 years and six titles, including designer and CEO with Brit powerhouse Burberry, it’s safe to say Chief Creative Officer and the now newly appointed President, Christopher Bailey, isn’t going anywhere any time soon. And thank God for that!
After joining the stiff and proper luxury house in 2001, Bailey made it his creative mission to bring a little pizzaz to the 161-year-old brand. Once best known for their utilitarian trenchcoats, the now £2.5-plus-billion company is coveted for Bailey’s sleek and chic menswear and womenswear lines, as equally as it is for its fragrances.
The latest eau to join Bailey’s elite roster is Mr. Burberry Eau de Parfum.
Inspired by London at night, this sensual and woody scent opens with tart grapefruit and fresh mint alongside spicy cardamom and tarragon. As it warms on the skin, the fragrance wafts soothing lavender with cozy nutmeg and cedar before intensifying with bold cinnamon, vetiver and patchouli and seductive amber, benzoin and sandalwood. The overall effect is powerful, iconic and tantalizing. Featuring Burberry’s signature design details, such as horn-look buttons referenced through the weighted cap and a hand-tied knot in English-woven gabardine around the neck, the heavy glass bottle honours the couture house’s black Heritage Trench Coat and the current style Bailey has infused into it.
It’s an intense incarnation of its predecessor Mr. Burberry, so be forewarned: this after-dark version is best spritzed when the sun goes down.
Mr. Burberry Eau de Parfum comes in 50 ml for $85, 100 ml for $110 and 150 ml for $145. It’s available at Shoppers Drug Mart, Sears, Sephora, and Hudson’s Bay stores across Canada.
