Hudson’s Bay has unveiled the uniforms that the country’s Olympians and Paralympians will wear at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games. The uniforms were revealed on Wednesday afternoon at an event in downtown Toronto hosted by the Canadian Olympic Committee and designer-supplier Hudson’s Bay.
The patriotic collection was designed to “capture the spirit of Canada, unifying sport and style, creating a look that is modern and comfortable, and most of all, passionately Canadian,” and features a palette of iconic colours: Maple Leaf Red, Northern White and Winter Night Black. Participating athletes will wear them at the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as in the Olympic Village and on the podium in the event of a medal win.
The collection includes colour-blocked t-shirts, classic sweatshirts, athletic sweaters, down-flled jackets and accessories like mittens and scarves, some emblazoned with a crest featuring a polar bear, a beaver or a loon next to the maple leaf. Others will feature “Canada” written in a vintage classic logo. The collection is priced from $5 to $30 for accessories, $12.99 to $50 for children’s wear, and $19 to $275 for men’s and women’s apparel.
Hudson’s Bay Company has outfitted Canada’s winter athletes for the Olympics since 2006, as well as at various points throughout the history of the Winter Games dating back to 1936. It released the 2014 edition of the red Olympic mittens on Sept. 10, with some design tweaks made to the wildly popular items from the 2010 Vancouver Games.
The official Olympic and Paralympic is available for consumers now at all Hudson’s Bay locations across Canada and online at thebay.com.
