After a successful run of retro drops and vintage restocks, Nike is hoping to evoke even more nostalgia with some upcoming silhouettes. This time around, fans will be able to get their hands on a slick new version of the classic Air Max 97 series. The original edition made a welcome comeback earlier this year, and came outfitted in OG “Silver Bullet” and “Metallic Gold” colourways.
It was another home run for Nike and became a must-own item for streetwear aficionados and sneakerheads alike. Upon the shoe’s release, it seemed retail locations were selling out at an incredible rate, and many were already calling for an immediate restock. Now Nike execs are hoping to capitalize on the 97 hypetrain yet again, by adding a new piece to the fiery hot series. There has yet to be an official release date, but soon enough you’ll be able to cop a slick “Triple Black” Air Max 97. It’s an on-trend move from Nike, and it’ll automatically compete with other cool, shadowy numbers including the Adidas Ultra Boost.
Originally released two decades ago, the Air Max 97 was designed by Christian Tresser and modeled after high-tech bullet trains. The sneaker was quite the statement from the company at the time, and came equipped with a bold futuristic design and advanced cushioning. Needless to say, the shoe was quick to turn heads.
The 97 eventually was boosted by some great collaborations and cosigns by musicians and actors, and eventually became one of the best-selling pieces of its time. It’s easy to see why the sneaker became so popular too, with its unique lacing and iconic bubble sole. The “Triple Black” update is a nice option for fans of the series, and rumours indicate that we can expect them sometime in November.
