Chances are pretty damn high that you’ve peeped Virgil Abloh’s latest designer sneakers. The highly acclaimed Off-White x Nike capsule has become the year’s hottest streetwear collaboration, and it now has some serious hardware to back up all of the hype. Earlier this week, it was announced that Virgil Abloh will be taking home 2017’s “Sneaker of the Year” award for his coveted Off-White Air Jordan 1.
The shoe is arguably the most popular in the official “Ten” series, which boasts a sleek, minimalist reimagining of classic silhouettes like the Air Presto, Blazer, and Vapormax. Launched earlier this September, the Off-White Air Jordan was wisely sent out to a number of cultural influencers and quickly found its way on the feet celebrities and musicians alike. Toronto’s own Drake was one of the shoe’s early adopters, as too were Roger Federer, A$AP Rocky, and fellow Canadian, Justin Bieber.
2017’s “Sneaker of the Year” honours come from the folks over at Footwear News, who will hold an official star-studded event later next month. As for Virgil Abloh, the Off-White mastermind is now in some extremely influential company. Previous winners of FNAA’s “Sneaker of the Year” include Rihanna for her PUMA Creeper and Kanye West for his incredibly popular Yeezy line.
