In June Dior revealed that Johnny Depp would star in his first-ever fragrance campaign, for a yet-to-be-revealed scent. This week the House of Dior released their full-length advertisement for Sauvage, the brand-new scent created by Dior’s in-house perfume creator Francois Demachy.
Sauvage is Dior’s first men’s fragrance in 10 years and only the seventh men’s fragrance the maison de parfums has produced since 1966. The eau de toilette is a masculine scent with a mix of bergamot from Calabria, black pepper bark from Sichuan and patchouli that’s been double distilled.
Of course, Jean-Baptiste Mondino’s moody full-length advertisement is meant to convey the vibe of the new fragrance. The short film features Depp strumming on a guitar, escaping into the desert where he encounters a buffalo and a coyote. Toward the end of the film, Depp digs a hold in the sand with a shovel and drops all his bracelets, rings and necklaces. Depp’s mesmerizing voice says he’s looking for something: “I can’t see. I can feel it. It’s magic. Sauvage.”
