Our laptops are about to get a serious makeover. Earlier this week, some pretty monumental news leaked out of Apple headquarters. According to trusted media outlet and rumour site, Apple Insider, the tech giant is developing a fancy dual-screen MacBook to be released in the near future. The currently untitled project is in its infancy, and so far only a few blueprints have surfaced, but the concept itself is enough to get us super excited. As you can see from the rough sketches below, the new laptop will totally do away with a traditional keyboard, and instead, will swap in a secondary touch screen which opens up a world of creative and practical opportunities.
News of this project first broke thanks to a filing from theĀ United States Patent and Trademark Office, who granted Apple a patent titled “dual display equipment with enhanced visibility and suppressed reflections.” The straightforward title gives us a clear image of the tech and its sleek design. It also reassures consumers that Apple is working to make sure that the two screens will not reflect off of each other (which is great news for our retinas).
This isn’t the first time that Apple has incorporated touch capability into a MacBook. Just two years ago, the brand introduced a laptop with an OLED Touch Bar that allowed for a faster and more refined taptic experience. With a full additional touch screen at our fingertips, our home computing could change forever. Before we get too invested in the dual-screen idea, however, it’s important to note that not all Apple blueprints result in fully-formed products.
