The future of the automotive industry might lay in Netlix-like subscription services, at least, this is the mindset of innovators at Porsche. Earlier this week, the German car manufacturer announced plans to launch a premium rental option that will allow everyone to roll in a wide variety of luxury vehicles.
Porsche is calling this brand new feature the “Passport Program” and it’s already being tested in select markets within the United States. Drivers in Atlanta, Georgia, will be the Passport Program’s first batch of users, and the lucky bunch will be able to choose dozens of Porsche vehicles, including the Cayenne, Boxster, and Macan.
The service will be available in two separate tiers, one cheaper version called “Launch” and another more expensive one called “Accelerate”. The former will cost buyers about $2,000 per month, with the latter set to operate at $3,000. If you’re willing to shell out a few more bucks, Accelerate will offer 22 Porsche models including the 911 and Panamera. Previous Porsche owners who buy into the program will also get special maintenance checks for their cars and delivery drops for rented Passport models.
If you live in Georgia and want to get involved with the pilot program, you can download the Porsche Passport app on Apple and Android devices. According to Porsche “both plans require a one-time activation fee of $500, and membership approval is dependent on a background and credit check”.
