Yesterday, it was reported that Samsung had halted production of its popular, Galaxy Note 7. The device was launched in August of this year, but due to a string of serious safety issues, was quickly recalled by the tech giant. Earlier this week, a plane flight in the US was evacuated when an already “fixed” Note 7 caught fire. Speaking with the press, the owner of the phone said it had been turned off, and was not connected to a power source, when it began to overheat in his pocket.
In China, every one of the Galaxy Note 7s that have been sold in the mainland, are being recalled. Samsung itself has been bluntly telling owners to not use the phone. This is of course due to the fact that even the refurbished, “fixed” phones have begun to catch fire and even explode. Now, the Korean-based company is permanently ending production of the device. Amid the news, Samsung’s shares fell by 7.5 percent, as it actively seeks to reclaim the millions of Note 7s it has sold. Already a massive corporate loss for the brand, it also serves as lost potential. Upon its debut (and before battery issues were discovered), the Note 7 was being heralded as one of the best Android devices on the market.
Users of the Galaxy Note 7 are being asked to contact the company hotline to return their phones and seek refunds or replacements. You can reach the Samsung hotline atĀ 1-800-SAMSUNG.
