Three New iPhone Models Rumoured for 2018 Release

The iPhone X may have just hit store shelves this month, but rumours are already surfacing regarding Apple’s forthcoming mobile devices. According to tech guru and KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, consumers may be getting three new Apple phones as early as next year. Kuo’s word has proven reliable in the past and he usually gathers information through Asian-Pacific connections in Apple corporate, so consider it safe to trust him as a source. MacRumors published Kuo’s research notes yesterday, and the speculation centres around an updated X and two fresh versions to boot. If all goes according to plan, all three devices will be outfitted with a full-screen OLED display and TrueDepth camera systems.

Kuo, who accurately predicted Apple’s full lineup just a few years ago, says that the upcoming smartphones will vary in price and will include a handful of unique additions. “Two new OLED models target high-end market; new TFT-LCD model aims at low-end & midrange markets,” he states in his research. “We believe the major hardware difference in the two new OLED models is size, in a bid to satisfy various needs of the high-end market. The new TFT-LCD model will differ significantly from the OLED models in hardware and design specs.” The lesser of the bunch, the TFT-LCD model, may be marketed as an “innovative user experience” and could likely include “3D sensing” to augment its full-screen.

The new trio of devices may sound great, but those of us hoping for a price decrease will be out of luck. Kuo’s research claims that the cheapest phone will set buyers back anywhere between $650 to $750 USD. Fortunately, Apple’s production line isn’t expected to face any of the same delays next year simply due to its newfound experience with full-screen displays. Whatever Apple is planning won’t be unveiled for quite some time, so we’ll have to quell our anticipation. In the meantime, check out RED’s futuristic smartphone slated for a 2018 release.
