No matter what kind of vehicle you drive or how much time you spend in the driver’s seat, your car is probably one of your most valued possessions. Needless to say, your daily commute would be a lot different without it.
That’s why it’s so important to have a car insurance policy that fits your needs, making sure you’re covered in case of the unexpected. TD Insurance knows not every car owner is made equal, which is why they always start with a Right Fit Coverage Assessment. Simply use TD Insurance’s online self-serve tool or give their advisors a call to answer 5-10 questions that will help you determine the type of coverage you need, from the mandatory package to enhanced and special packages. That way you’ll be covered whether your car is a base model or a luxury vehicle.
In addition to car insurance, there are a few more things every car owner needs to make sure the time spent commuting, heading to the grocery store and embarking on weekend road trips is used wisely. These accessories will help you feel at home in your car, no matter where you’re headed.
Custom mats
This being Canada and all, you’re going to need a good set of floor mats to protect your car’s interior in the winter. Check out WeatherTech for custom-made vinyl mats that will fit perfectly in the foot well of your car. WeatherTech engineers actually scan every vehicle with lasers and create aluminum molds that are used to form the mats, so you won’t have to maneuver them or fold them awkwardly to get them to fit. Mr Floormats is another good place to browse through a bunch of different styles to find the look and function that will fit your idea of the perfect floor mat.
GPS
Even if you only do your typical city driving and rarely need directions, it’s still smart to have a GPS, whether it’s on your phone or a separate unit. You just never know when a detour will take you into a neighbourhood you didn’t even realize existed, or if you’ll decide to go on an impromptu road trip. Sure, there’s always an actual paper map, but you’re pretty much guaranteed to miss a turn or two if you go that route. Points in favour of having a device separate from your phone include the fact that they don’t use data and they won’t drain your cell battery. Quality GPS brands include Garmin, TomTom, and Magellan.
If you’d rather just use the GPS on your Smartphone, make sure that it’s hands-free and that you install a mount so you aren’t fumbling around with your phone when you’re on the road. To avoid distracted driving, be sure to enter your destination before you head out.
Satellite radio
No one knows how repetitive songs on the radio can get better than someone who spends a lot of time in the car. If you’re sick of listening to the same Taylor Swift and Drake songs over and over, consider investing in satellite radio. SiriusXM Canada has packages from as low as $15.99 a month and you’ll get over 120 channels including commercial-free music channels, 24/7 comedy channels and every sporting event you could possibly want. Once you’ve had all those options, you’ll never be able to go back to regular local radio stations.
Dashboard video camera
This is kind of like a GoPro, but for your morning commute. Accidents (ones you’re involved in or not) happen all the time, and they happen fast. Sometimes it’s hard to remember exactly what went down. Having a dashboard camera means you’ll have indisputable evidence that the other car did, in fact, go through a red light. That means you won’t have to argue with the driver about who was really at fault. You never know, your dashboard camera could help police catch reckless drivers, hit and run suspects or someone who just robbed a convenience store. Check out brands like Goluk, Encore and Transcend DrivePro for the best value.
On the off chance that you are involved in an accident, make filing your claim easy.
