Your Instagram stories are about to sound a whole lot better. Thanks to a recent update, users of the popular photo-sharing app will now able to add music to their daily stories. The new feature was initially tested back in May of this year, and the prototype proved successful enough for the brand to integrate the function into their current version. This exciting news follows a massive business venture by parent company, Facebook, who have now aligned with major record labels — the strategy behind the move is to compete with video streaming titan, YouTube.
As for the Instagram renovations, industry experts are pointing out that the addition of music will continue to push the app ahead of rival Snapchat. The latter is unable to include a similar augmentation due to strict copyright laws that would prevent recorded material landing on their stories. Another point of interest in this story, is how this affects audio-focused social media app, Musical.ly, whose audience utilizes and shares music in a comparable way. Should Instagram continue to go down this road, it might spell trouble for Musical.ly and its tween-dominated community.
To see if you indeed have the new music feature on your Instagram account, first make sure that you’ve updated the application. Once that’s done, pull up the sticker options on your story and select the music pin. You can now search and select your favourite song and place it onto any part of your frame. It’s important to note, however, that this feature is still in its rollout period, so you may have to wait until you have access.
