Turks & Caicos is known as a vacationers dream with its crystal clear blue water and endless white sand beaches. With direct flights from Toronto that will take you to paradise in just under four hours, this is a favourite destination for Canadians trying to escape the winter. With that in mind, we checked out the newly renovated Club Med Turkoise. This all inclusive adults only resort has the longest beach front on the island. So why not get away this winter and escape the cold?
And yes, we said adults only, which means you can chill and relax with your significant other without any families (or kids). This also means the Club throws an amazing party every single night of the week with dancing and open bar. Here’s the rundown:
The resort
Club Med Turkoise is a charming smaller scale resort made up of a collection of brightly coloured bungalows located on the white sands of Grace Bay Beach. The rooms are spread out through multiple outbuildings that provide better views and more privacy for all guests. The resorts features 292 rooms completely refreshed rooms — many with private balconies and ocean views.
The hub of the resort feels like a little chic village. A collection of charming bungalows make up the centre of the resort. In this cute little abodes you will find the main bar, a theatre (for nightly performances), two restaurants, a wine cellar, and a handful of boutiques. But the centre pieces of the resort has to be the oversized infinity pool that overlooks the beach. The whole resort feels like paradise.
Dining at Turkoise is like taking a gourmet international food tour. There are two restaurants on site, including the buffet-style Grace Bay restaurant, which allows guests to wander among food stations serving up international cuisine, It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Take your meal inside or on the beautiful wrap around porch. Secondly, there is also a more casual waterfront bar and grill. Sharkies, which is open all afternoon and into the night, serves up snacks such as tacos, burgers, and chips. And great drinks of course.
A new wine cellar was built alongside the main restaurant where you can book in your own private wine tastings. The resorts sommeliers will guide you through some of the world’s best wines. Each selection is thoughtfully paired with hors d’oeuvres like ceviche with mango salsa or beer-braised chicken with pesto rice. The wine tasting experience is available for an additional cost of US$50 per person.
What to do:
Of course you are headed to the beach to relax and rejuvenate but Turkoise has plenty of other activities for you to partake in. Snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing, paddle boarding and kayaking are all popular activities at the resort. Aside from water sports, Turkoise also offers a variety of activities throughout the day like cross training, ping-pong tournaments, tennis, basketball, soccer, and sunset yoga on the dock. But one of the distinct features of any Club Med resort is that you can also run away to the circus for the day. That’s right, you can fulfill your childhood fantasy and take daily flying trapeze lessons. And if you get good enough, you can appear in one of the nightly shows.
Of course if relaxation is more your style, the resort features a world class spa with beauty treatments and massages. Ocean-view palapas were added during the renovation to offer seaside spa treatments. You can now relax on the beach in your own palapas while receiving a deep tissue massage. Let the ocean breeze carry your troubles away.
Now while the resort include a wide variety of activities, you can also venture off the resort and check out some other things the island has to offer. There are several companies that offer half day and full day excursions including but not limited to: sunset snorkeling in the reefs; whale and dolphins cruises; kiteboarding; deep sea diving; stand up paddle boarding and sailing. You can even book your own private boat charters and set your own itinerary.
