Name: Rebecca Hall
Birthdate: May 3, 1982
Birthplace: London, England
Claim to fame: She gained widespread recognition for her role opposite Javier Bardem and Scarlett Johannson in the hit Woody Allen film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.
What we can see her in next: She next stars alongside Jason Bateman in Joel Edgerton’s directorial debut, a thriller titled The Gift, which hits theatres everywhere on August 7.
Interesting fact: When preparing for a role she creates a playlist for her character. Her playlist for Maya (Iron Man 3) included Green Day, Radiohead and 90’s rock.
Best Quote: “If pressed, I would say I feel British. It’s where I grew up and where I choose to live, the culture that I love, but I feel perfectly at home in America, I don’t feel like a tourist or anything.” — Talking about her dual British-American citizenship.
Why we love her: Our WCW this week is the elegantly talented, Rebecca Hall. While she hasn’t quite made it to the top heat of actresses in Hollywood, she’s pretty darn close. She began to get widespread recognition after she impressed critics and audiences alike, with her role as the straight-laced American traveller opposite the free-spirited and non-conformist Scarlett Johansson, and the smooth-talking, womanizing Spaniard, Javier Bardem in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her performance — ever since she’s been that girl in every movie that leaves audiences asking, “what’s the name of that actresses again?”
Well, hopefully now everyone will remember. It’s Rebecca Hall and she’s a formidable British-American actress who has slowly been rising for a while now. Her breakthrough role came when she was cast as Sarah Borden in the Christopher Nolan film The Prestige just under a decade ago. Then came her acclaimed performance in the Woody Allen flick, followed by another notable performance in Ben Affleck’s The Town (she played the conflicted love interest of Affleck). She also took over for Jessica Chastain’s role in Iron Man 3, as well as appeared opposite Johnny Depp in Transcendance.
Now Hall is still hovering around the level of actresses, that while not quite at the level to carry a movie all on their own and play the title character, they always impress in a costarring role or an ensemble cast. But based off her talent and consistency, it wouldn’t surprise me if she gets her shot to be the main girl soon.
Also, despite being a serious dramatic actress, Hall made headlines in this Funny or Die video as she mocked One Direction fans over the news that band member Louis Tomlinson was going to be a father.
Now you have to give her credit for having the audacity to challenge the One Direction army head on like that.
You can catch Hall in her latest movie The Gift, in theatres everywhere on August 7.
